She entered the dining room, enthusiastically sat in her chair and started telling a joke to her table mates. Right then and there is when I knew I wanted to work with older adults. That was Mrs. “Riley”. I was about 17 and Mrs. Riley was one of the residents at the retirement home where I was happily employed for the summer. I had become quite close with Mrs. Riley over the past few months. The team was working together to ensure this hilarious and life-loving character could enjoy her life with some support.
Mrs Riley was a spitfire. She was likely well into her 90’s and about 4 and a half feet tall. She always had a quip that would have staff and residents alike rolling on the floor laughing. I adored this woman. I was also her favourite. We spent hours thumbing through Glamour and Cosmopolitan magazines (an academic who also had a penchant for fashion) while she would share infinite stories of her life. Her small family had predeceased her and Mrs Riley was flying solo these days. She had so much to share. So much wisdom and a zest for life that I, at my tender age, had not experienced.
Life marched on and I rediscovered the world of retirement living once again after raising my family. I have since had the privilege of spending the last 10+ years with older adults in a retirement setting and I truly have never been happier. There is something very magical about being a part of a decision to make a life change that I know will be great. I always felt like my ‘job’ was a gift. They say “find work that you love and you’ll never work a day” – Indeed.
My role is to help. I make the big decisions about retirement living a little bit easier. I’ll do all of the legwork. I’ll keep you and your family continuously in the loop. When you think you might need some assistance and are considering retirement living or hiring home care I’m your gal. I love this. It’s not work. It’s just what I do. Allow me to utilize my partners and community connections to bring you choices. Let me help you and your family embark on the next stage of retirement.
